Community Safety Guidelines
For Givers: Sharing Safely
- Be Transparent: Clearly state when the food was prepared. For packaged goods, show the expiry date.
- Disclose Allergens: Always mention major allergens like nuts, dairy, gluten, etc., in your description.
- Handle with Care: Use clean containers. Keep hot foods hot (above 140°F/60°C) and cold foods cold (below 40°F/4°C) until pickup.
- Honesty is Key: Be honest about the condition of the food. It's better to be overly cautious.
For Receivers: Consuming Safely
- Inspect Thoroughly: Check for any unusual smells, colors, or textures. Look for signs of spoilage.
- When in Doubt, Throw it Out: Your health is the top priority. Do not consume anything you are unsure about.
- Proper Storage: Refrigerate any perishable items immediately after pickup.
- Reheat Properly: Reheat cooked foods to an internal temperature of 165°F (74°C) before eating.
- Ask Questions: Don't hesitate to ask the giver about ingredients or preparation if you have concerns.
